Welcome to Titanic

Titanic It's referred to by many different names like "The Ship of Dreams" and "The Unsinkable Ship", but there's more than just the names - there's a story. What really happened on the night of April 14, 1912? First of all, the Titanic was built by White Star Lines and costed about $10 million to build. It weighed over 46,000 tons and was 882.5 feet in length. A ship of this size had only 20 total life boats, when it was capable of holding at least 64 lifeboats, more than enough for the 2,300 passengers. The Captain was Edward J. Smith (a personal marconigram is below). When the Titanic struck that infamous iceberg in the Northern Atlantic Ocean at 11:40 P.M. on the evening of April 14, 1912 (5th day of the 6 day cruise), the gash was approximately 300 feet long. The Titanic sank at 2:30 A.M. on April 15, 1912. Of the 2,300 passengers on board, only about 700 survived. While the Titanic's story is very interesting, at the same time it's a very tragic one too. It was one unbelievable ship. Here are some of the many links to various Titanic sites. |
